Ruth Citrin is Director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme. Ruth joins ECFR following more than fifteen years with the U.S. government, most recently as Director for Syria and Lebanon with the White House National Security Council and an advisor on Syria policy with the Secretary of State's Policy Planning Staff.
Previously, Ruth supervised a team of Middle East analysts at the Department of State, where she served as a senior Middle East analyst, specializing in Syria and the Levant. Ruth also has managed public opinion polling in the Middle East and South Asia for the Department of State. Ruth holds a doctorate in international relations from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
