Jihad Abu al-Asal
Jihad Yousef Abu al-Asal (جهاد يوسف أبو العسل) was born in the Aqabat Jaber camp near Jericho in 1956. He joined Preventive Security after the establishment of the Palestinian Authority and eventually became director of the agency in the city of Jericho. Al-Asal went on to become director of the Palestinian Petroleum Authority until 2008.
In 2012, he became secretary of the Fatah movement for the Jericho and Jordan Valley governorate. Al-Asal then succeeded Majed al-Fetyani as governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley in September 2018. He was fired by Mahmoud Abbas in August 2023.
