Ahmad Hilles was born in Gaza in 1952. He joined Fatah in the early 1970s and is a member of its Central Committee based in Gaza. In March 2019, he was reportedly the target of an attempted assassination attack by unknown assailants in Gaza.
He was previously a prominent Fatah militant in Gaza, imprisoned by Israel several times for his military activities. After the Oslo Accords, he was appointed by Arafat to be Fatah’s secretary general in Gaza.
