Programme Coordinator – Middle East and North Africa (MENA)

ECFR is looking for a pro-active and enthusiastic Programme Coordinator who provides cross-cutting coordination to the activities of ECFR’s MENA Programme. You will support the development of the MENA programme’s policy-driven activities, coordinate advocacy, financial and fundraising functions, communications and engaging policy fellows, national offices and relevant external contacts. You will maintain efficient liaison with all relevant parts of ECFR and may be asked to assist other projects and initiatives.

  • Under the guidance of the Programme Director, support the effective implementation of the programme’s strategy and work plan.
  • Coordinate the formulation of advocacy and communications strategies and ensure effective inclusion of national offices throughout projects. 
  • Coordinate and organise relevant events such as consultations and workshops, as well as mailings, travel etc.
  • Manage the Programme’s finances, including budget drafting, monitoring and reporting.
  • Monitor the deliverables and financial expenditure of assigned donor projects, including compliance with donor regulations.
  • Liaise with relevant external contacts and ECFR council members, expand the programme’s advocacy network and ensure the development of the contact database.
  • Track and promote the impact of ECFR MENA’s work for senior management, ECFR board and external donors/stakeholders.
  • Help coordinate fundraising for the program and share in the production of relevant materials for prospective donors.
  • Other general responsibilities may be reasonably requested over time in the context of overall ECFR priorities.

Person specification

  • Knowledge and experience of the Middle East and North Africa region.
  • Programme or project management experience, preferably in a fast-paced international environment requiring extensive coordination with others.
  • Experience in budgeting and financial oversight is a strong advantage.
  • Degree in Middle Eastern studies, international relations or equivalent.
  • Excellent organisational skills, logical and a good eye for detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, work towards deadlines and manage challenging situations. 
  • Exceptional communication skills and a high standard of written and verbal English is essential; working knowledge of Arabic/another European language is an advantage.
  • Highly IT proficient including MS Office.
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-national team and to develop effective relationships.
