Communications Manager - Fixed-Term (Placement for Parental Leave)
ECFR is seeking a dynamic Communications Manager for a fixed-term parental leave placement to oversee its strategic communications strategy. In particular, you would develop media strategies and campaigns for ECFR projects, write press releases and media advisories, oversee outreach with contacts with print, broadcast and multimedia journalists, oversee the organisation’s branding, and seek to place content by ECFR policy fellows in the European media. We are looking for someone with a good grasp of the changing media landscape and the ability to exploit it proactively for ECFR’s purposes.

To take a strategic lead on how ECFR records its media impact
To supervise a small team of communications staff based across Europe
To coordinate ECFR staff across offices in terms of communications responsibilities
To coordinate ECFR’s day-to-day press office operation
To help develop and maintain ECFR’s relationship with key European media outlets, build relationships with key individuals within those outlets and identify opportunities for op-ed placement
To devise media strategies for major publications and advocacy initiatives
To work with ECFR’s national offices to strengthen their relationship with relevant European and national media outlets
To work with ECFR’s programmes to enable and assist policy staff to build relationships with key media outlets and journalists relevant to their work
To place op-eds by policy staff and Council members in key media outlets across Europe
Online and Social Media
To oversee day-to-day ECFR’s digital output including the website, Twitter, Facebook, podcasts, video and email newsletters
To take a lead role in curating, commissioning and editing commentaries for ECFR’s website
To lead the development of video, graphic and audio products to communicate ECFR’s messages
To oversee ECFR’s visual branding guidelines, including the creation and enforcement of templates
To lead in the creation and organisation of ECFR branding at events, specifically the Annual Council Meeting and other big conferences
Solid proven experience within a demanding media operation with an international dimension
General knowledge of European media environment
Excellent written English and editing skills
Able to work individually as well as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-national team and to develop effective relationships.
capacity to work under pressure and manage a busy workload
Ability to work in other major European languages
Graphic design skills, familiarity with software like Adobe Suite, InDesign, Photoshop and content management systems
Familiarity with content management and database systems
Proficiency in web analytics and especially Google Analytics
Interest in and knowledge of international affairs and European foreign policy
