Turkey and the Transatlantic Alliance: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities in the Middle East

How can differences between the US, EU, and Turkey be successful navigated in the Middle East?

This workshop, co-hosted with GMF and the Al Sharq Forum, will set out to address the question of whether and how European states and the US can better work with Turkey to stabilise the Middle East. How do triangular relations between the US-Europe-Turkey play out in the region? What are the external and internal challenges to enhanced transatlantic cooperation? How can regional differences between the US, EU, and Turkey over perceived interests be successfully navigated? The discussions will explore how these dynamics have shaped new lines of global power competition in the Eastern Mediterranean and fed deepening fault lines across the Gulf.
