ECFR was introduced to the Italian audience in 2009, with a seminar on China held at the Chamber of Deputies. On that occasion, the Head of State Giorgio Napolitano received a delegation from ECFR. One year later, in January 2010, the Rome office was established and officially launched with a seminar on transatlantic relations.

The Rome Office relies on a very active engagement of Italian Council Members; carries on effective advocacy, also through fruitful contacts with Italian institutions; is visible through its high-level events and impact on the media; works in cooperation with other institutes and organizations; hosts seminars and conferences with the participation of ECFR experts.  

The Rome Office organizes several kinds of public and private events, Breakfast series and Ginger Groups. ECFR publications are often quoted by major Italian newspapers and magazines, including Il Sole 24 Ore, Il Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, La Stampa, Il Foglio, L’Espresso, Internazionale.
