In March 2015, many European countries, including the UK, France and Germany, applied to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) which aims at financing infrastructure projects in Asia. What will be the consequences on Chinese investments in Europe and the Bilateral Investment Treaty negotiations? How will Europe benefit?

François Godement is the director of ECFR’s Asia & China programme and a senior policy fellow at ECFR. He is the co-author of The European Interest in an investment with Chinapublished in February 2015 and also wrote What Europe needs is an EIIB not an AIIB.
