New Chinese Leadership, New Foreign Policy?

China’s foreign relations were fraught with tensions in recent months, especially in East Asia but also in terms of an intensified rivalry with the United States. The new Chinese President Xi Jinping chose Russia and Africa for his first state visits, which reflects a new thinking in China‘s foreign policy. Are we facing a strategic shift in China’s foreign relations? If so, what would this mean for China, Europe and other parts of the world? How might it change China’s image in the world? What role will China’s soft power, especially its state media, play in this image building process? These and other questions will be discussed by Professor Yan Xuetong, Dean of the Institute of International Studies at Tsinghua University and Matthias Naß, International Correspondent of Die Zeit.

The event will be held in English. It will be followed by a reception.
