Italy has strong interests and concerns on Libya and the convergence with the Obama Administration has been vital for Rome’s strategy, starting from the creation of the international contact group for Libya, jointly invoked by the Italian MFA and the US state department.

The situation in Libya is at a critical point because of the challenges the unity government is facing and of a possible escalation among different factions. After one year since the UN backed political agreements were signed, it’s now time to take difficult decisions where the convergence with the new US administration will be crucial.
