The Office in Madrid of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), in the framework of a program of public discussions launched in other EU capitals, organized a seminar on May 24, under Chatham House rules. Titled “EU in crisis, Russia in crisis: what future scenarios in the Eastern Neighbourhood”?, the debate was about the future of the Eastern Neighbourhood and Russia in 2030 – and what this all means for Spain. Also, Fredrik Wesslau presented the recent ECFR Publication “Russia 2030: a story of great power dreams and small victorious wars”.

The discussion had two sessions:

Session 1: Geopolitics, latent conflicts and domestic wars of reforms: what scenarios for the Eastern Neighbourhood? What possible approach for Spain? 

Francisco de Borja Lasheras (Director of the Madrid Office of the European Council on Foreign Relations), presenting a working paper on Spain and the future of Russia and the Eastern Neighbourhood.

Co-discussants: Enrique Mora (Political Director, Spanish Ministry on Foreign Affairs, and ECFR Council Member), and Duncan Allan (FCO Research Analyst)
