Public debate to launch the European Foreign Policy Scorecard 2012 at the CERI Sciences Po
In cooperation with the Brookings Institution, the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Heinrich Böll Foundation, ECFR co-hosted a private high-level workshop on transatlantic relations in Washington, DC. The event was held on the premises of the Brookings Institution last Tuesday.
Together with the three other host organisations, ECFR welcomed approximately 40 policy experts and officials, who travelled from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss EU-US relations in the American capital. This broader topic was examined in the context of policy towards Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan (AfPak), Iran and China with ECFR experts and Council Members taking on a number of speaking roles throughout the day. The workshop was concluded with a closed dinner that was hosted by the Spanish Ambassador to the US. The evening discussions were introduced by Anne-Mare Slaughter from the US Department of State and Andres Ortega from the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the workshop itself, ECFR's Senior Policy Fellow Daniel Korski spoke on AfPak and the challenges related to the transatlantic stabilisation mission in Afghanistan. ECFR's Director Mark Leonard chaired the discussions on China, with ECFR Senior Policy Fellow François Godement as one of this session's four panelists. Godement is ECFR's leading expert on China and is currently working on an ECFR policy paper that will be published this week.
