ECFR's Berlin office held a high level event on the economic crisis yesterday. The theme of the event was "After the G20: what next steps for Europe to master the economic crisis?" Some 35 leaders and members of international institutions (such as IMF and Unicredit) and European governments took part and discussed pressing and complex financial issues with ECFR experts.
A heated debate on Europe's economic prospects, ranging from the future of the euro to Germany's financial nationalism versus the common market, took place. Issues such as the danger of protectionism, the need for harmonisation and mainstreaming of policies, solidarity, bail outs, enlarging the eurozone and the how Eastern Europe ought to be steered out of the crisis were all examined at length.
