It looks like the ultimate political comeback. Five years ago Viktor Yanukovich's political career seemed over, destroyed in the Orange Revolution. He was beaten in the 2004 presidential election by the triumphant Viktor Yushchenko, abandoned by his allies in Moscow and humiliated by having his campaign managers exposed as blatant fraudsters. In any other European country he would have been finished.
But on Sunday night he looked to be on the verge of his greatest success. With exit polls showing him comfortably ahead, he seemed likely to overcome his two Orange Revolution rivals - Mr Yushchenko and the prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko. Click here for more.
