ECFR experts available for comment on the big issues for 2010: from Ashton to Yemen

11 Jan 10

11 January 2010

2010 will be a test for Europe. Upcoming elections in Ukraine, a security crisis that now draws in Yemen, and the possibility of a nuclear Iran are all tests of Europe's capacity as a foreign policy player. But recent events in Copenhagen also suggest that the EU no longer has the influence that it needs to make an impact.

Much will depend on the new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, who faces the scrutiny of the European Parliament today.

We have more on Ashton's Parliamentary hearing in our latest podcast with Thomas Klau. Click here for the audio.

ECFR's experts are available to comment on what lies ahead for Europe in 2010 under Ashton, including:

  • Flashpoint crises such as Yemen, and what Europe can do to prevent a nuclear Iran.
  • Strained 'special relationships' with the US and what a 'post-American world' means for Europe.
  • The make-up of the External Action Service and how Ashton works with Spain's foreign ministry during the country's rotating EU Presidency.
